Bethany Beach First Responders Triathlon Duathlon Presents Contribution to Bethany Beach Fire Company!
October 31, 2012 Bethany Beach, DE - The inaugural Bethany Beach First Responders Triathlon-Duathlon, presented by Meris Properties, held on September 23, was a resounding success and raised $10,000 for the Bethany Beach's First Responders in the Fire and EMS service of the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company. On Friday, October 26, the gift was presented to Volunteer Fire Company Officials.
"We produced this event to fill a void on the shore and to bring added excitement to the second season. We wanted to create an athletic competition for Bethany Beach, raise money for a few worthy charities, and also host fun events for non-athletes, so we created this 2 day event. Judging from the positive comments and energetic atmosphere, we succeeded." said Race Director, Rick Hundley.
"Thanks to our many sponsors, cooperation from the town and state, record number of athletes, scores of volunteers, and enthusiastic spectators, the Bethany Beach First Responders Triathlon-Duathlon, presented by Meris Properties, attracted a windfall of business to the area. Moreover, we were also able to make a substantial donation in our very first year." said Race Producer, Ernie Felici.
"On behalf of the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company and EMS service, I would like to thank the Bethany Beach First Responders Triathlon-Duathlon, presented by Meris Properties, for this incredible donation. Only with support like this are we able to fulfill our mission and serve our community." said Monte Wisbrock, President, Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company.
Over 700 athletes and more than 1000 spectators, party-goers, and volunteers converged upon Bethany Beach for the inaugural series of events that supported first responders and EMS services of the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company, with athlete-selected options to support Make A Wish Mid-Atlantic, Share-a-Lot, and Autism Speaks. The weekend also featured a Health & Sports Expo and an open-to-the-community Pasta Dinner held at the Fire Company. The festivities were true community-building events and showcased the philanthropic, supportive and party-loving nature of the beach and its residents.
Registration is now open for the next Bethany Beach Triathlon-Duathlon: Sunday September 22, 2013. We promise everything you liked to return and new exciting features such as an aqua-bike option for the Duathlon!
